Congressman Dan Crenshaw revealed his true beliefs when he dissed a struggling senior on Social Security. Republicans will raise the retirement age if allowed to.
Whenever someone says something stupid like "why are you so special, old man" the immediate response should be "because I've spent my entire life CONTRIBUTING to Social Security, unlike YOU, you selfish asshole!"
Before the most recent GOP gerrymander, I was in Crenshaw's district. He took office at the start of 2019. Seven months later he posted a YouTube video explaining why AR-15-type military assault guns are splendid weapons for 'defending your home'. As it happens, a couple of days later a racist gunman wielding an assault gun slaughtered 23 people at an El Paso Walmart.
A normal. decent human being would have immediately taken down the ill-advised video, if only out of respect for the dead. Not Crenshaw! For a long time after — weeks or maybe months, I don't recall — as families grieved, Crenshaw doubled down by leaving this video publicly posted online.
It tells you everything you need to know about ex-Navy SEAL Crenshaw's seeming lack of empathy or remorse. I've met Crenshaw. He can be charming, but IMO ultimately gives off the vibe of a stone cold killer.
Thus I am unsurprised that Crenshaw lashed out at a senior citizen who had a tax question about Social Security.
As you may recall, Trump did a photo op serving up fast food at a McD drive-through window. But what he's really good at is serving up nothingburgers. Remember he made a huge deal out of promising to not tax people's tip income.
The tax impact on most workers who earn tips would be approximately ... zero.
The question that came up in Crenshaw's rigged 'town hall' referred to Trump's promise not to tax Social Security income. Another nothingburger.
I've been living on Social Security retirement income for over ten years, so I know this: for most folks, the tax impact is (you guessed it) ... zero.

Please pass the ketchup.
