5th Personal Note (Ashley Update)
Politics Done Right in Washington DC
I am so thankful for the support I continue to receive from my Politics Done Right Posse (PDR Posse), friends, and family as I have temporarily moved to DC to care for my daughter Ashley after her 2nd stroke. I visit with her every day for the 4 hours allowed given COVID restrictions, and we make the best of it. I took her outside for some fresh air yesterday. She has been in the hospital for over three weeks without seeing the sun or breathing in the fresh air. She is recovering slowly and well. I am so proud of all her efforts to come back strong. I am getting her apartment ready and equipped for her return to continue her recovery on an outpatient basis. Like I told her, 'We got this.' If the improvements continue, she will be at the apartment on Thursday. Let’s keep those positive affirmations coming.
Before leaving Houston, I told my wife, life would never be the same again. I knew that it would be a while before I saw Houston again. I knew that my daughter would need assistance for a reasonably long recovery. I have reorganized to keep my Texas organizational commitments even as I fulfill my parental responsibilities in DC.
No one knows the tribulations that they will face in life. Anyone’s plans, as ours did, can change overnight, without notice. Often, life changes can be random.
My daughter was three months away from graduating from medical school and had already entered the residency match. She had already postponed for six months due to ill effects from the radiation to treat the AVM that caused her initial stroke. And now this.
I fight hard to promote progressive messaging and hold politicians and corporations accountable because of uncertainty in society. One creates a society to prevent the reign of individualism, which is only viable when things go the way one wants. I fight to prevent the hypocrisy and unsustainability of individualism to frame policy. It has often proven fatal.
One should not have to have their own personal experiences to determine that they want humane policies. One should have or should cultivate empathy. One never knows if or when fate will hand them an unwelcomed change.
NOTE: Because of the visiting hours at the rehab center, Politics Done Right is temporarily airing live at 11:00 AM Central/Noon Eastern/9:00 AM Pacific. Of course, you can listen at your convenience via podcast or at the Politics Done Right website.
Senator explains how filibuster gives 24% of Americans veto power over what a 76% majority wants.
Senator Angus King, a former supporter of the filibuster, now sees it as an extortion tool enabling minority governance.
Senator King had the most prescient statement that should cauterize in our brains.
"Let me give you one piece of math, Rachel, that I think you'll find surprising," Senator Angus King said. "You can get 41 votes out of the current Senate, which was enough to block any legislation. And if you take the states that those 41 Senators represent add all the population together, you get 24 percent of the American people. So the situation we're in now is that 24% of the American people have an effective veto over anything that 76% of the American people think is important public policy/ I don't think that squares with Democratic Theory. Those numbers are staggering, and we cannot continue to allow that ."

Rep. Liz Cheney slams GOP, Kevin McCarthy, & Jim Jordan for not voting for Bannon’s contempt.
Rep. Liz Cheney did not only call out her entire party for being anti-democratic, but she also called out Reps. Jim Jordan & Kevin McCarthy by name.
Liz Cheney first went after Representative Jim Jordan.
"My colleague from Ohio, Mr. Jordan, who just suggested that we were here because we opposed President Trump's policies, seems to have forgotten that actually on January 6th he himself said quote, what happened today is wrong and is not what America is about. The next day Mr. Jordan said what happened Wednesday is a tragedy. Everyone knows it's as wrong as wrong can be."
Liz Cheney then implored her Republican colleagues to support the Bannon contempt vote. She begged that they choose the institutions of the United States over politics, party.
"The former president suggested that the violence was justified," Liz Cheney said. "My colleagues in the Republican Party, the Republican members of this body have to understand, have to recognize that there's a moment when politics must stop if we want to defend and protect our institutions. A violent assault on the capital to stop a constitutional process of counting electoral votes is that moment."
She then went after the hypocrisy of Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan.
"In fact, the minority leader himself stood in this chamber and said quote, the President bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding," Cheney pointed out. "Mr. McCarthy was right then. The President bears responsibility. We need to know what happened."
Cheney dissects her party perfectly. One hopes that in the long run, they will be back.

BINGO! This is how Progressives must talk about the Build Back Better price tag Dems, watch & learn.
Democrats & Progressives too often are not fast to correct the narrative when a TV Host makes the Right-Wing or Neoliberal narrative. Ruben Gallego hits it out of the park.
Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and a member of the Progressive Caucus handled an important false narrative that the mainstream media continues to make about the Build Back Better policies. Then would have on believed that it is a much bigger number than it really is.
Ruben Gallego did an important thing. He tied the price tag of the bills with the defense budget. A $2 Trillion bill does not look big next to a $7.7 Trillion defense budget bill. Worse, while one improves the lives of many as they enhance their lives and remove millions from poverty, the others blow things up and enrich those who build things to blow stuff up.
It is very important that we continue to point out all of the benefits of the bill and not allow it to become a game of numbers. That is what the plutocracy wants. It is what they pay Republicans and neoliberals like Sinema and Manchin to do. Shamefully, they have no problem screwing their constituents to protect the wealth of a few.
