Presidential debate coverage & mainstream media analysis illustrates the need for independent media
Virtually all democracy loving Americans panicked after Biden's presidential debate performance. While the mainstream media placed the panic on a reel, independent media expanded the analysis.
After watching the debate, I was admittedly disappointed in President Biden and his team. My first post after the debate pointed out that the Democratic Party had a lot of work to do and decisions to make. I admitted I did not know what all those steps needed to be. Subsequently, I wrote some posts at Daily Kos and in my newsletter “Egberto Off The Record,” pointing out that whatever solutions we came up with required selflessness and patriotism by all, including the president. We do not have the luxury of stubbornness or spin.
We all need to engage the pulse of people scared of capitulation to MAGA and Project 2025 because of self-inflicted wounds. We need to engage like-minded people who are never counted by polls or addressed by the mainstream media and are left out of voting, services, and many other benefits of society.
Who is using the tools necessary to reach these people? — Independent Media. People develop trust and a sense of belonging with the media they are close to. That trust is a catalyst to mobilize people who never felt they made a difference. I get calls on my media/radio show, Politics Done Right, and direct messages/emails/texts for my articles and blogs where people feel they matter. More importantly, they want their solutions entertained and aired, something they cannot get from the corporatized mainstream media.
We have thousands of subscribers to our blogs, newsletters, and articles and tens of thousands to our streaming channels, such as YouTube, X(Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others. Unfortunately, less than 1 percent are paid subscribers.
The only model that works for small independent media is having a small portion of one’s subscribers become paid subscribers to ensure survival and the ability to engage and get our progressive message out. Your support is invaluable, especially in these times when we need to activate everyone to save our democracy. All we ask is that those of you who can support this work with the equivalent of a cup of coffee become paid subscribers today. Thank you so much for your attention and participation.
Beautiful and strategic thinking (i.e., the perfect hybrid) brother Egberto. Keep it going and let’s talk soon. CP
Egberto, I am proud to be one of your subscribers.
My take on the admittedly disappointing debate is that Joe Biden got gaslighted by an unending barrage of flagrant lies. He had no time to process the falsehoods or to properly respond to them. Imagine standing at a podium with studio lights in your eyes and having to immediately respond to a tirade of untruths. Trump may have been the one who looked more smugly confident during the debate but he did not win the debate because one cannot win with no substance and all lies.
Hey, if good debating were to be the main qualification to be president, how come I am not the president? Long ago, I lettered in debate and one year I won 17 debates and lost only 1. 😎
