Dean of Texas House, Rep. Senfronia Thompson on escaping Texas to protect voters & democracy
Representative Senfronia Thompson is the Dean of the Texas House. She is an institution in her own right. And she fled Texas with her cohort to protect every Texan’s vote. She explains!
Representative Senfronia Thompson took some time out of her busy schedule in Washington DC. She gave an interview immediately after completing her interview with Rachel Maddow.
“The legislature is trying to strip away,” Rep. Thompson said. “The voting rights of people.”
Thompson enumerated the draconian nature of the bill. It included creating inconveniences like eliminating 24-hour drive-through voting, arcane signature verification, and vote-by-mail re-registration.
Most disconcerting is the freedom the Republican Legislature wants to give to poll watchers. It is nothing more than voter intimidation. Thompson equates it to having Trump’s goons, the Proud Boys, populating POC precincts intimidating votes.
Thompson has been in the Texas Legislature for over 50 years. It is that history that she brings that obliges her to fight with all she has got for the voting rights of her constituents. She still remembers her grandparents saving their money for poll taxes. She remembers the blood sacrifice many have made for the vote. Thompson’s stories are palpable, piercing, and empathetic.
The Representative said that the Texas delegation met with Senator Joe Manchin, the Democratic protector of the filibuster. She felt that it was a positive meeting. They will continue highlighting the issue in Washington DC. After all, allowing the GOP to kill democracy is not an option.
Representative Senfronia Thompson is not sure how it will end. But she is sure that she and her Texas cohort will not just go into the midnight. They intend to keep up the fight.
Texas State Representative Jasmine Crockett on fleeing Texas to save our Democracy
Texas State Representative Jasmine Crockett, along with her Democratic Caucus, left Texas to block Republican’s voter suppression bill S.B 1 & H.B. 3.
I have been watching freshman state representative Jasmine Crockett (Twitter) for some time. Her interviews are always fact-based and on point. This legislator knows the law and is never afraid to use it.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett is one of the natural leaders in the Democratic Caucus that has vacated Texas to deny Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his cabal of voter suppressing Republicans. The caucus is in DC, imploring the U.S. Senate to do what is necessary to pass the For The People Act (S1). If they must create a carve-out to the anti-democratic filibuster, they must.
Rep. Crockett did not disappoint. She laid out the case. She made it clear the Democrats are in it for the long haul and that they will do all they can to protect the vote for every Texan and, with that, every American.
Who is Jasmine Crockett in her words

In the midst of political turmoil where millions are fighting for social equity, some lace up their shoes and march for justice while others infiltrate to change the very system that legally oppresses them; my life’s work has consisted of both vital components in today’s civil rights movement.
From a public defender in Bowie County to private practice, I have served people in the states of Texas and Arkansas as well as in Federal Courts, defending accusations waged in a broken criminal justice system. …
I’ve seen first-hand how unjust laws can ruin families in the State of Texas and I realize I have two options; I can continue to fight the injustice case by case in the court of law OR I can go to Austin and fight to change those laws. I’ve decided my unique experiences as a civil rights attorney will serve to educate those on the house floor of the real life problems with many of the laws that have been implemented.

Worthwhile Reads
The following three books, culminating in my latest, “How to Make America Utopia,” IMHO presents our economy, politics, and socialization in a context that frees us from the indoctrination inflicted on us from birth through our schools, churches, and media.
My books and/or your subscriptions allow us to keep telling the progressive narrative in a form in which the mainstream media cannot because they are funded by those they must somewhat appease. To effect change, people must be respected and informed truthfully & civilly.
Several of my books have AudioBook versions.
Democrats leaning into the progressive message. Victory will follow. Slam how-to-pay-for-it message!
Congresswoman Susan Delbene (D-WA) used the five winning words every Progressive and Democrat should use when the how-to-pay-for-it message comes.
American families began getting deserved monthly checks based on the number of kids that they have. It was a part of the American Rescue Plan that Democrats passed. Not a single Republican voted for it.
In discussing all the monies going to Kentucky, McConnell, Senator for one of the states most dependent on government handouts, had an interesting take, as reported by MSNBC.
"Not a single member of my party voted for [American Rescue Plan]," McConnell said. "So, you're going to get a lot more money. I didn't vote for it. But you're going to get a lot more money. Cities and counties in Kentucky will get close to [$700 million] or $800 million. If you add up the total amount that will come into our state, $4 billion."
Now that the overdue support for the poor and the middle-class is flowing, We must put Republicans on the defensive. Whenever Progressives and Democrats propose middle-class solutions, Republicans and some centrist Democrats tend to balk. They always ask, 'how will it get paid for?'
Congresswoman Susan Delbene's response to Craig Melvin's how-do-you-pay-for-it question was perfect.
"How can you not do it," Rep. Delbene replied emphatically. "The estimate is that child poverty costs us around approximately one trillion dollars a year. Also, studies have shown that for every dollar we invest in the expanded child tax credit, we save eight dollars. So not only is it a fiscally responsible thing to do, it just leads to better outcomes for our kids."
Sen. Tim Kaine uses McConnell’s attack to perfectly frame a winning Democratic message. EPIC!
Senator Tim Kaine used some factually false statements from McConnell to drive the Democratic message every American will want and understand. But there is much more!
MSNBC's Ayman Mohyeldin played a statement from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell where he made various hypocritical, lying, and misleading claims. One would hope more journalists would correct in real-time.
He said that we have a 50/50 Senate. That is numerically true. However, the fact is that the 50 Democratic Senators represent many more Americans than does the 50 Republican Senators. That Montana and California have the same number of Senators is a very undemocratic flaw in our design. Note as well that gerrymandering has given Republicans overrepresentation in the House of Representatives as well.
McConnell claims that Democrats do not have a mandate for the policies that they are proposing. That is false. While Republican politicians balk at providing support for the poor and middle class, polls say Americans want Democratic Legislation, Progressive Legislation.
But Tim Kaine did not do what too often Democrats do when presented with a Republican or a Conservative attack. He did what so many of us have been begging Democrats to do. Lean into our message. And Tim Kaine did just that. After pointing out that the bill will help all Americans explaining in a form as easy as bread and butter, he leaned in.
"This will be to children what Social Security was to seniors and this is just one part of the bill," Kaine said. "This is going to be enormously popular with Americans in every zip code in this country, Democrats, Republicans Independents. And I'm so excited to be on the budget committee."
