Well said, Egberto. Thank you. I admire your patience to engage with a$$holes and idiots as defined by behaviors you describe in this particular caller. The guy seems to have a demonstrated inability to listen and learn. There's no shred of humility: "Maybe there's something here I should look at."

People in other fields refer to such jerks as uncoachable. The jerk can be extremely intelligent, talented, educated, knowledgeable. But being uncoachable renders him a waste of time, beyond redemption. Maybe he will someday learn this life lesson, likely the hard way. But not on my watch. Life is too short.

Hence I am not nearly as patient as you. My own response would be to tell him, "Go gargle with razor blades" -- a line I stole from a New York radio talk host decades ago. My low tolerance for jerks does not make me admirable, quite the opposite. It's my failing. I am glad you can be there for both of us.

You are so right, my friend. Frankly, anyone who comes in and says "use my favorite terminology or you're automatically wrong" is part of the problem. He never said he was progressive, but I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, sadly, that's the tip of the iceberg. Trump is a narcissist, but we have plenty of narcissists on the left as well. These folks are all about attention, and there's no better way to get attention than to "take down" another progressive (who better than a radio host?). That's why progressive activists burn out so quickly, after spending years constantly on their guard against making a mistake - there's no support at all, and it's exhausting. Even worse, established leadership will often publicly shame someone who isn't yet fully conversant with our point of view. Naturally that just shuts them down, and it ensures that our movement doesn't grow. We eat our own young when we should be nurturing them, and It's a crying shame.
