Stephanie Ruhle: Thanks for TX Voter Suppression Walk coverage but poll’s dangerously misrepresented
White House reporters’ inept questions like these on COVID partly to blame for Americans’ ignorance.
We speak to several Texas politicians fighting to block Republican Voter Suppression in Texas.
We must keep the message that our Democratic Texas Legislators are trying to keep in the minds of every American and specifically Texans. After all, their fight against voter suppression is much more about saving Democracy for the entire country. We speak to the Dean of the Texas House, Rep. Senfronia Thompson, 2019 Freshman Award winner Rep. Jon Rosenthal, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and Rep. Penny Morales Shaw.
Rep. Senfronia Thompson
Representative Senfronia Thompson took some time out of her busy schedule in Washington DC. She gave an interview immediately after completing her interview with Rachel Maddow.
“The legislature is trying to strip away,” Rep. Thompson said. “The voting rights of people.”
Rep. Jon Rosenthal
State Representative Jon Rosenthal wants to make it clear that no Texas taxpayer dollars will support them in Washington DC. At great peril to their own personal economies, these brave Democratic Texas legislators are doing all within their power to save Democracy not only for Texans but for the entire country.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett
I have been watching freshman state representative Jasmine Crockett (Twitter) for some time. Her interviews are always fact-based and on point. This legislator knows the law and is never afraid to use it.
The caucus is in DC, imploring the U.S. Senate to do what is necessary to pass the For The People Act (S1). If they must create a carve-out to the anti-democratic filibuster, they must. Rep. Crockett did not disappoint. She laid out the case. She made it clear the Democrats are in it for the long haul and that they will do all they can to protect the vote for every Texan and, with that, every American.
Rep. Penny Morales Shaw
Rep. Penny Morales Shaw pointed out that voter suppression bills have already passed in 17 states. The representative detailed the different items in the Texas bill and how it affects her constituents.
“The freedom to vote,” Shaw said. “That is what we are fighting for. Not only for Texans but across America there has been a slew of legislation filed — at least 46 states — to restrict voter access and to have chilling effects on voters.”
Statewide, Texas activists continue to hold down the fort in Austin, Texas, as they fight Voter Suppression locally.
While our Texas Legislators are fighting in Washington DC against Voter Suppression by Republican Texas Legislators, our local activists are doing their part to ensure Texans understand what is happening.
Activist Neil Aquino
Neil Aquino, a local activist, took it upon himself to protest at the Texas Capitol — no official organization, just one individual fighting for Democracy.
Activists Trish Robinson & Kelli Patin
Liberty County Texas Activist Trish Robinson and Orange County Activist Kelli Patin walked with Beto O’Rourke and Reverend Dr. William Barber from Georgetown, culminating at the Austin Capitol for the big Voter Suppression rally.

Worthwhile Reads
The following three books, culminating in my latest, “How to Make America Utopia,” IMHO presents our economy, politics, and socialization in a context that frees us from the indoctrination inflicted on us from birth through our schools, churches, and media.
My books and/or your subscriptions allow us to keep telling the progressive narrative in a form in which the mainstream media cannot because they are funded by those they must somewhat appease. To effect change, people must be respected and informed truthfully & civilly.
Several of my books have AudioBook versions. Purchase all three as a bundle here.
Stephanie Ruhle: Thanks for TX Voter Suppression Walk coverage but poll’s dangerously misrepresented
I commend Stephanie Ruhle for covering the Texas Voter Suppression walk, allowing Beto O'Rourke and Rev. Barber to speak freely. But the misrepresentation of the poll is dangerous. Her producer needs to do better.
Stephanie Ruhle was great in the amount of time she gave both Beto O'Rourke and Rev. William Barber to speak. Her devil's advocate questions allowed both Beto and Barber to enhance their answers.
Ruhle's first question was about the optics of Texas Democratic State Legislators leaving the state. The implication is that they are not doing their jobs. The reality is that ensuring a lack of quorum is a part of their job to save our vote.
Beto O'Rourke knocked it out of the park. He pointed out that the legislators are heroes. But he goes further. He connected voter suppression to the slave wages in Texas. He reminded the nation that Texas is the state with the largest number of uninsured people. They are dying from diseases they should not die from. He could have also mentioned a failing electrical grid and water management, and much more.
"If we want to fix these things," Beto said. "People have to be able to vote. We're going to do our part in Texas. ... We are going to be rallying in front of the State Capitol at 10 AM [CT] on Saturday. We want everyone to be there to stand up and be counted."
Barber tells Stephanie Ruhle that Congress must act
Rev. Barber said that Democracy is in Trouble. He said if one says we see the latest attack since the Civil War, an appropriate response is necessary.
"The answer to that must be massive," Barber said. "That is why we have to end the filibuster. ... We have to pass every provision of For The People Act. ... We have to have a restored Voting Rights Act."
Barber also said inclusiveness must support immigrants, $15/hour Living Wage, and unions. He said we must have an answer from Congress, federal action. After all, that is the constitutional answer to voter suppression.
Stephanie Ruhle must flag her producer as she grossly misrepresented a Texas poll. Her words were true, but they gave the wrong interpretation of the poll.
Ruhle implied that more Texans wanted the voting rules more restrictive than loosened. She failed to point out that 54% of Texans wanted the voting rules loosened or maintained. In other words, they do not support the voter suppression laws Texas Republicans are attempting to pass.
Barber points out that the Chamber of Commerce is a culprit in undermining the vote. And then he had a prescient statement.
"We say to the people in DC," Barber said. "Stand strong. There are four things you need to deal with. Access to the poll. Gerrymandering. Ethics. And money so we are not treating corporations like people and people like things. It is time for us to treat people like people and corporations like things. And make sure we open up the ballot to everybody."
Point taken.
White House reporters’ inept questions like these on COVID partly to blame for Americans’ ignorance
It is easy to blame Republican politicians, Right-Wingers, and Evangelicals for COVID vaccine resistance. It is time to assign blame to reporters who lack critical thinking skills.
Listening to the White House press briefing is a must. Yes, I do it, so you do not have to go through the tedium. I try to cover the worthy. Recently the worthy have been noticing that the questions are unworthy.
Many national and international crises go completely uncovered in these briefings. Current briefings have not considered in any worthwhile detail student loan debt, rent & mortgage loan crisis, patent relief to cure COVID worldwide, among other significant issues.
But COVID? The reporters are happy to ask the same silly, uninformed questions that do more to mislead or sow doubt in the public than to aid in their understanding of the pandemic.
This clip shows two examples of repetitive questions that Jen Psaki attempted to answer in various forms. Why do the vaccinated need to wear masks now? Why did the president change his stance on mask-wearing?
Psaki does a good job of providing the answers to repetitive questions. But my God, if the reporters do not know the answers by now, their critical thinking skills are suspect. They should be writing their articles to explain to the American people what they need to know. After all, it is simple.
The vaccine is safe as millions worldwide and in America have taken it without issues of consequence. If all Americans get vaccinated, the virus will burn out because it does not have a host to replicate in. The unvaccinated prevent that burnout and, in fact, causes replication and mutation. The mutation requires a behavior change and, as such, a change in guidelines. The vaccinated, while still protected, can spread the virus. If we want stasis in guidelines, then everyone should get vaccinated. The unvaccinated ensure that the lives of all are uncomfortable.
That is the message. No more questions will change that reality.
