And he similarly defined a section of the GOP MAGA base similar to Hillary Clinton. Hillary called them deplorables. He called them listless vessels only supporting those who kiss Trump's rear end. Social Security Embodies the True Meaning of Liberty: The United States Declaration of Independence describes liberty as a fundamental and “self-evident” human right. Unfortunately, the word has been usurped by the political right, which frames it as the freedom of the powerful to exploit and abuse others without restraint. As someone once said (or as I’ve misremembered it), “The rich man is as free to cross a bridge in a carriage as the poor man is to sleep under it.” That’s their definition of liberty. But Social Security, whose 88th “birthday” took place this week, offers some insight into a broader definition of liberty. The phrase itself–“Social Security”–contains the seeds of a broader and more profound liberty for both individuals and communities. [More]

Plan to save Social Security by GOP & Neoliberals that invest in Wall Street Stock Market, a fraud: Senator Bill Cassidy appeared on CNN's State of the Union, where he accused Trump, Democrats, and Republican candidates of their failure to address the Social Security woes. But he provided a solution that, at best, is fraudulent as he is removing the security from Social Security as the plan calls for investments in the Stock Market via Wall Street. [More]
Bill Cassidy wants to burn more natural gas & penalize China as the solution to slow CO2 emissions: Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) shows that he simply refuses to understand the severity of climate change and the role the U.S. must play. Taxing China and forcing countries to do more of what the U.S. should have done is not the answer. [More]
'The Guatemalan People Have Spoken': Anti-Corruption Advocate Bernardo Arévalo Wins Presidency: In a blow to Guatemala's right-wing political establishment, former diplomat Bernardo Arévalo won the nation's presidential election on Sunday, pledging to fight corruption that has eroded the country's institutions and entrenched massive levels of inequality and poverty. Voters chose Arévalo over former first lady Sandra Torres in a landslide, putting the anti-corruption advocate on track to become the most progressive Guatemalan leader since Jacobo Árbenz, who was ousted in a U.S.-sponsored coup in 1954. UPS Teamsters Overwhelmingly Approve 'Historic' New Contract, Averting Strike: United Parcel Service workers in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on Tuesday overwhelmingly ratified what the union called "the most historic collective bargaining agreement in the history of UPS," avoiding what experts said would have been a crippling strike. Teamsters members voted by 86.3% to approve the new tentative contract, which raises wages for full- and part-time workers creates more full-time jobs, and secures "important workplace protections, including air conditioning."
