Progressives & Dems: Stop being scared about Election 2022. Don’t fall for the Republican poker face.
A Politics Done Right viewer's concern about McConnell's threat to withhold Biden Supreme Court nominees forced this important rant on Election 2022.
I have the best viewers on my Politics Done Right program online and at KPFT 90.1 FM Houston. I have Progressive, Democratic, Republican, Conservative, and Right-Wing listeners. I believe in addressing all respectfully and civilly, and I make sure to listen.
Today I had to rant about Election 2022 as I continue to listen to an irrational fear about losing. The election will not be given to us by anyone. It is ours to lose. We must go out there and take it; obstacles be damned.
'McConnell Explains How He’ll Steal Another Supreme Court Pick From Another Democratic President. The Republican signals that if his party retakes the Senate, he’ll block Biden’s high court nominees in 2024—and very probably in 2023.' // This is why winning 2022 is so important … and #Democrats will only win 2022 if they pass meaningful legislation that tangibly helps the people and the environment this year.
It is important that Democrats not believe they are playing a game of chess with Republicans. Republicans are claiming victory with the expectation that Democrats will acquiesce to their fear because of history. I state in my rant that Republicans are blocking what most Americans want. We must stop allowing those who block progress to reap any reward. By leaning into our policies and addressing people with respect as we articulate the reality that empowered, we will be successful.
My books and/or your subscriptions allow us to keep telling the progressive narrative in a form in which the mainstream media cannot because they are funded by those they must somewhat appease. To effect change, people must be respected and informed truthfully & civilly.
Joe Biden slams reporter: ‘What the hell do you do all the time’ & ‘you’re in the wrong business.’
Joe Biden did mince his words as he really snapped at a reporter for misrepresenting what he said and asking a silly question.
As Joe Biden was walking out of his press conference, a reporter asked him a silly question. She likely did not expect as strong of the pushback from the president.
”Why are you so confident he will change his behavior, Mr. President,” the reporter asked.
To be clear, there was never a point in the president’s press conference where he expressed any confidence in Putin’s change in behavior. In fact, he made it clear throughout that we would have to see over time. He wanted a face-to-face meeting because he believes that is the most effective manner to let one know your parameters.
“I am not confident he will change his behavior,” Biden snapped back. “Where the hell? What do you do all of the time? When did I say I was confident?”
The reporter then pointed out what he said, which in fact showed no confidence but instead a wait-and-see attitude.
“You said in the next six months,” the reporter replied. “You will be able to determine.”
“I said, look, let’s get it straight,” the President said. “I said what will change their behavior is how the rest of the world reacts to them when they diminish their standing in the world. I am not confident of anything. I am just stating the facts.”
The reporter continued to show her incompetence.
“Given that his past behavior has not changed,” the reporter continued. “In that press conference, after sitting down with you for several hours with you, he denied any involvement in cyberattacks. He downplayed human rights abuses. He even refused to say Alexei Navalny’s name. So how do that account to a constructive meeting as President Putin ...”
“If you don’t understand that,” Biden lashed back. “You are in the wrong business.”
And he is absolutely correct.

What sets my work apart from others? I think it’s my personality. I am a lot and just enough. I know how to take complex news stories and break them down where everyone, no matter how old they are, can understand it and FEEL it. I was always told that I was relatable and easy to understand, whether you agreed with my take or not. I can proudly say I have videos that have millions of views on them: over 10 million views and counting. My work influenced and impacted millions of people. Started debates and conversations, highlighted issues not only here but even in my family’s homeland of Haiti. And millions of people thought to stop and watch me. I am grateful. While I may be well known for my work in the digital political journalism world, I started out doing hard news during my undergrad years at Florida A&M University.
Rebecca Azor is a breath of fresh air in digital independent journalism, digital or otherwise. Her insightful and empathetic take on issues makes one feel they are sitting down on a couch dialoguing and learning.
Bayou City Waterkeeper’s Kristen Schlemmer is proof that grassroots organizing work
Bayou City Waterkeeper’s legal director Kristen Schlemmer discusses their grassroots efforts and successes to keep waters clean and flood control.
Kristen Schlemmer points out the following.
Our legal work led to a court order requiring that the City of Houston invest $2 billion in its sanitary sewer infrastructure over the next 15 years. We have argued that the city’s settlement does not do enough to help the low-income and Black and brown communities most affected by sewage pollution and concentrate our advocacy and efforts around that point in particular. You can read more here and here. Broader themes/intersections with Winter Storm are touched on here and here.
We have been at the core of ongoing advocacy efforts related to flood spending in Harris County. Much good has come out of this process – a real commitment to equity and nature-based solutions and creating a Community Flood Resilience Task Force – but obstacles, mostly in the form of funding, keep arising. The communities that are supposed to be prioritized using equity principles keep bearing the brunts of these shortfalls. More background reading here and here.
We also do much work to push back against irresponsible development within the floodplains and over wetlands. We have a Wetland Watch program, where we help residents who report problematic developments in their backyards with advocacy and have filed related lawsuits over the years. Currently, we have a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers challenging its decisions related to residential development in League City. More info here.
Kristen Schlemmer gives an inspiring message of encouragement to grassroots organizers. She makes it clear that if her small organization can make a $2 Billion difference, you can too.

You had me responding positively to your comments until you said you could break something down, so that “no matter how old you are”, you can understand it. I realize that we live in a youth culture in which many younger people look down on older people, assuming that they don’t understand anything that is going on because they are mentally impaired. It happens, but the vast number of older people are not mentally impaired. I think the breakdown of understanding is how much one pays attention to what’s going on, the degree to which one reads well researched journalism that attempts to be as objective as possible, the degree to which a person is more interested in the facts behind the headlines than finding cliches that “prove their tribes take on the political point is correct”, ones culture, education & willingness to address issue of life & politics using critical thinking, rather than what those in their tribe agree with & the list goes on. I’ll stay with other objective news sources that haven’t shown disrespect for older people. If you prove you can write respectfully of older people, some of whom follow the issues more deeply & understand them better than many young people I’ve had conversations with, I’ll give you a second chance. We all make mistakes based on assumptions that have been passed down to us, sometimes by family, the culture or other influences in our lives. Now I’ll get off my soapbox. Have a good day.
Based on your statement, I think you need to give me a second chance. (1) I am 60 years old. (2) I am not sure what part of the video I am making an age statement, but I know I am not agist. Some younger people do not understand what older folk have gone through, and some older folk do not understand what young ones have gone through. The keyword is “some.” Given that my intent is to speak to all and unite, ensuring we keep our eyes on the ball may have been the genesis of that statement, but I do not know specifically which statement you refer to. But rest assured, my intent is never to be condescending to anyone. If you listen to my shows, I give reasons why I cannot given my history.
Thanks for the reply. So often, one writes something, but never hears from them. I appreciate your responding. It is what is in the written text that stopped me, not the video. I didn't get to the video after that statement. Copied from the article: "What sets my work apart from others? I think it’s my personality. I am a lot and just enough. Oh! Those are the words of the young woman I interviewed. And in knowing her I can tell that there was no condescension or malice though I can understand how some people who do not know her would take it that way. Please stay in the family, comment, and say your piece. I want a forum where ALL know they are listened to. Thanks!
